"Cookies" are small text files that can be created by JavaScripts or HTML embedded in web sites you visit; these text files are written to your hard drive. A Web site can reference its own cookies to track which pages you’ve visited on the site, which ad banners you’ve seen, whether you’ve registered on a site or not, and so forth.

Some people hate cookies and regard them as an invasion of privacy. I don't. The link below gives you more detail on the pros and cons of cookies. The test buttons let you see if your browser supports cookies, and whether or not you can turn cookies support on and off.
